CATARINA NEW -a talented jazz saxophonist who resides in the Coachella Valley but originally came to the United States from Sweden to attend the New School of Jazz in New York. She studied with jazz greats Bill Evans, Reggie Workman, Kenny Werner, Hal Galper, David Liebman and Bob Mintzer.
She has a Master's Degree in Music Education and was awarded a full scholarship on a Master's Degree in Jazz at USC. In 2006 Catarina won the "Southern California Music Awards" in the category of "Best Jazz Solo Artist."
Catarina has produced two CDs: "Don't Stop Now" (in 1999) and "The Point of No Return" (in 2006, in collaboration with pianist Marty Steele). Bruce Fessier, well known Entertainment Editor from the "Desert Sun," says: "Catarina New deserves being mentioned in the same breath as saxophonist Mindi Abair and Candy Dulfer."
She has performed with world famous trumpeter Bobby Shew, Bobby Rodriguez, drummer Thelonious Monk Jr., vocalists Barbara Morrison and Anita O'Day, to name a few. She also has an impressive track record of performances at The House of Blues, B.B. King's, La Ve Lee, Playboy Jazz-Fest in Los Angeles, Idyllwild California Jazz Festival, and at venues throughout the world, from New York to New Orleans to Brazil and Sweden, with stops in between.
